Sometimes Once Then Tomorrow

Sometimes the words flow freely,
Sometimes you choke on what you cannot say,
Sometimes they fly through your mind like a whirlwind,
Sometimes the pain destroys all you wanted to say,
Sometimes in the dark the words beat you up,
Sometimes they are so big they crush you.

Once the lines enticed the ears,
Once the stories intrigued the mind,
Once the dreams spoke of love to come,
Once the sound soothed past pain,
Once promises nourished the heart,
Once hope energized the soul.

Then truth broke the illusion,
Then honesty destroyed desire,
Then silence imprisoned you,
Then darkness cast you adrift,
Then loneliness was all you had,
Then forever became your sentence.

Tomorrow to the child is grand,
Tomorrow to the youth is forever,
Tomorrow to the lover is bliss,
Tomorrow to the lost is just a word,
Tomorrow to the broken is torture,
Tomorrow to the forgotten isn't.
